Arch Henderson was appointed to design and procure a new fish market for Peterhead Port Authority. The new fish market was required to accommodate the greater quantities of stocks being landed on the quayside at Peterhead, Aberdeenshire; the UK’s largest white fish and pelagic port.
Works for the £8.5M fish market began on site in May 2017. Arch Henderson was appointed to carry out architectural, civil and structural design duties for the 4,700m2 market, and also to carry out contract administration duties for the construction stages.
The roof of the main market hall consists of a 30m span steel portal frame which was designed to accommodate south facing photovoltaics installed at the optimum angle to produce maximum energy savings.
The new fish market was officially opened by HRH Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay in September 2018.
