Aberdeen and Peterhead harbour civil engineering design for handling heavy offshore wind turbine sections.
Arch Henderson’s knowledge and experience of Aberdeen and Peterhead harbours was key to being awarded the work. The turbines are supported on a tripod frame with suction buckets each weighing up to 900T. These were required to be temporarily stored at ASCO’s South Base in Peterhead. We analysed the quay, checked the corrosion calculations and provided advice to ASCO prior to the foundations being lifted onto the quay. We designed and detailed the foundation for a permanent crane at the quayside in Aberdeen to service vessels working on the turbines. We also designed the piles for a new mooring pontoon and supervised installation of the works.
