Aberdeen Harbour Expansion Project will soon reach another milestone with the new South Breakwater nearing completion. The 600m long structure incorporates a rock and armour core overlain with 8, 12 and 16m3 Accropode Units.
The Accropode units have been manufactured in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located at the root of the breakwater. The facility incorporates a semi-automated concreting carousel which allows up to 30 units to be constructed per day in controlled conditions. Van Oord is busy completing the last of the crown slap and crest Accropode units, with completion expected before the end of the year. The South Breakwater is already providing significant shelter, allowing other works to progress.
The short videos show the construction of the accropodes and one being set in place on the breakwater.
